After a short walk from Central Station you reach our harbor, the oldest in Amsterdam. This will be your safe haven during your stay. From the quay you set foot aboard the ship and walk round the wheelhouse where you will find the entrance to the apartment. During the renovation of the ship I have tried to use as much high quality recycled materials and furniture to keep my carbon footprint as low as possible. I think this adds to the character of the ship, hope you like it!

The living room / bedroom

Descend via the stairs and enter the living room with the large double bed at the far end. This space is about 40 sqm large and is surprisingly light thanks to the many windows, both in the side of the hull and in the roof. You can chill out on the super comfy couch and enjoy the unique ‘tree trunk sofa’ (that actually sits surprisingly nice) and watch television. The ceiling of the living room is approximately 220 cm high.

Open kitchen

On the right side of the entrance you have access to the fully equipped open U-shaped kitchen. There is a 5-stove burner with oven, fridge, water cooker and coffee maker. The kitchen has a roof window that lets in lots of light. Please note that for some tall people the roof in the kitchen is quite low (180 cm). For most guests this is not a problem, but I wanted to mention it anyway to give you the best possible impression of the place.

Comfortable double bed

In the far end of the living room you will find the large and comfortable bed, measuring 180 x 200 cm. Note that this is a real double bed, so it can not be taken apart.

Bathroom with bath

The bathroom is located in the front of the ship, with the entrance next to the bed. I have chosen to use a great load of marble I could lay my hand on, creating a kind of mid-century luxury atmosphere. In the bathroom you can use the large bath with shower if you want to relax to the max. Furthermore there is a toilet and sink for your convenience. Note that the ceiling of the bathroom is also quite low (approximately 180 cm).

Central heating

I’m glad to provide central heating so you will be comfortably warm all through the year, even on the coldest winter nights.

Outside space

Simply sitting on the deck with a fresh cup of coffee or a cold beer is the favorite pastime activity for most of our guests. Enjoy the views over our harbor and the historical buildings on the Prins Hendrikkade, have a smoke if you like. Just take it easy and feel what it’s like to live on a houseboat in Amsterdam with the one you love!

Some general notes

I am the kind of person that likes to recycle materials and choose unique objects to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. If you want a regular apartment with IKEA-design, air conditioning and new top-notch amenities, I think this is not your cup of tea. However, if you like a personal touch, lots of space and a cozy atmosphere, this is just the place for you.

Since the apartment is aboard a former freight ship, some things are different than in a regular apartment. Taller guests may need to duck a bit when entering via the stairs. And note that you can only throw regular toilet paper in the toilet to avoid damage to the pump. Furthermore You may see me walking over the deck when I’m there. But furthermore you have all the privacy you want of course.

As said above, I can not tolerate the use of any drugs and/or partying aboard my houseboat. You will be more than welcome to be a part of our houseboat community, and in return I ask my guests to show respect to all the members of this community. I thought it would be good to make this clear and avoid disappointment after booking this place.
